Thoughts about the Character:

I thought Vincent would have had his share of suffering in the past, he used to be idealistic and would always try to find the good part in everyone personality, but even so, bad people will still be bad even if you can find something about them that justify their behavior and even if you want to believe they can change. Vincent would always use a short sword and a shield to be sure he would have the means to protect someone if needed (because a short sword has a great speed and the shield would help someone not only himself) even so, things went terribly wrong one day and his attitude caused the death of many of his comrades and he saw the world for what it truly was. He gave up on the shield, he wasn't good enough to protect anyone, he started learning how to use other weapons and decided to become a warrior, he would follow his own path doing what he can when he can but he would never look at other people the same way, the man who once wanted to believe in others, now can only see how miserable the world has become, full of ignorant and foul people.
Vincent hates to depend on others, specially when he thinks the other person is sacrificing themselves for him, and since the massacre of his comrades he is plaged by nightmares and cannot sleep without having his weapon close.
